Electronic Openings

Electronic Door Access allows access at a door upon authorization and digital credentials. Individual doors or groups of doors can be scheduled to remain locked or unlocked at particular days and times. It provides audit, reporting, and system forensics capabilities while eliminating the costs for manual keys, key tracking and rekeying. Access is easy and quick to assign and remove as needed and the system can report on who is assigned access, and who has used it.

Access control can be installed at the interior and exterior doors, single and double wooden or glass doors, ADA doors, sliding doors, elevators, gates, and turnstiles. Other uses include key control cabinets and electronic access lockers.

Single authentication, as an ID card swipe, can be used. For higher security areas, a second dual authentication method can be added, such as a pin code, fingerprint or retinal scan.

Electronic Door Access

Electronic door access control system is powerful and can open the door using proximity cards, passwords, or the hybrid. The access controller can provide users with more convenience by connecting to terminals, including the button for opening the door, doorbell, and electric lock that is normally open or closed.

Gate Access

Gate access, is another electronic access application utilized on campus.

The gate equipment is integrated into our access control system and has the same functionality as a “regular” door. Gates, like the one pictured, and can be paired with an intercom/camera feature. Those already approved for access can enter using their digital credentials; those without access can contact staff via the intercom, be seen on camera, and the gate can be opened remotely, as appropriate.

Gates with “arms” that raise for admitting traffic on a road or into a parking lot are another type used on campus. The basics remain the same: the ability to control access without a person physically on-site at a guard station 24/7, plus all the audit and reporting capabilities.

Roll Up Doors

Roll up doors are another variation on door access. The security equipment can be used with doors that open manually with an electric motor. These doors have the audit, reporting, and system forensics capabilities.

Electronic access roll up doors are in use at receiving and storage areas around campus, as well as at the Athletics Department’s Indoor Practice Facility, pictured.

Door Monitoring

We’ve included Door Monitoring to call attention to this feature. When a door with electronic access is locked, the access control system can be set up to send an alert by email in real time if the door is opened without a proper credential.

A camera in the SAT’s video platform with a view of the door can be configured to email a photo when an alert is triggered. In combination, these functions allow a department the ability for real time monitoring and a way to evaluate an alarm in real time before dispatching personnel to the site.

Turnstiles

Electronic turnstiles allow one person to pass at a time while accommodating high traffic volume. Similar to doors, they can be scheduled for “open/unlocked” periods where anyone can pass through and hours when credentials are needed.

Turnstiles can be used to enforce one-way traffic flow, as at an entrance or exit. They have the audit, reporting, and system forensics capabilities of electronic door access. They are available in many styles and sizes. On campus, the JB Hunt and DH Hill Libraries both use turnstiles.

Security Portals

Security revolving doors and mantrap portals are unmanned entry solutions that reliably and predictably prevent tailgating and piggybacking into sensitive buildings or interior areas. They can use dual authentication, if needed, and provide the same audit, reporting and system forensics capabilities and benefits as the other access control applications.

Elevator Controls

Electronic access can be installed at an exterior wall next to an elevator or inside the elevator cab. Both options allow the ability to control access by floor as well as set hours when an elevator is open to one or more floors. As with other door access control applications, there are audit, reporting, and system forensics capabilities.
